Why regular checkups matter
Antenatal visits track the baby's growth, the mother's blood pressure, weight and general health, and catch problems like anaemia, diabetes in pregnancy or high blood pressure early, when they are easiest to manage.
What usually happens at a visit
The doctor checks blood pressure, weight, and the baby's growth and heartbeat. Blood and urine tests are done at set stages, along with ultrasound scans to check the baby's development.
What to bring
Your antenatal card, earlier scan reports, a list of any medicines you take, and any questions you have written down.
Common concerns patients ask about
Nausea and vomiting, swelling of the feet, backache, and what foods or activities to avoid are common questions. Most have simple, safe answers specific to each pregnancy.
When to come in straight away
Heavy bleeding, severe abdominal pain, reduced baby movements, severe headache with blurred vision, or fluid leaking before your due date need prompt attention. Do not wait for a scheduled visit.
