General Medicine

The first doctor to see for most health problems in adults — and the one who keeps long-term conditions in check.

What is general medicine?

General medicine covers the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of illness in adults. A general physician looks at the whole person, decides which tests are actually needed, treats what can be treated directly and refers on — inside Disha or outside — when a specialist is the right next step.

Who it is for

Adults with a new symptom they cannot explain, a fever that is not settling, or a long-term condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure or a thyroid problem that needs regular review.

Conditions we see

  • Fever, viral and bacterial infections
  • Diabetes — diagnosis and ongoing control
  • High blood pressure
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Cough, breathlessness and asthma
  • Acidity, stomach pain and loose motions
  • Tiredness, weakness and unexplained weight change
  • Admission and inpatient care for medical illness

What to expect

  1. 01

The physician takes a full history and examines you.

  2. 02

Only the tests that will change the decision are ordered — and the reason for each is explained.

  3. 03

You leave with a written plan, the medicines and when to come back.

FAQ

Questions patients ask

When should I see a general physician rather than a specialist?

For most new symptoms, start with a general physician. They will treat what they can and refer you to the right specialist if one is needed, so you do not pay for the wrong consultation first.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring any earlier prescriptions, test reports and the medicines you take now (or a photo of their labels). For diabetes or blood pressure, bring your home readings if you have them.

Can I be admitted under general medicine?

Yes. Disha Hospital admits patients who need inpatient medical care. The doctor will explain why admission is advised and what it is expected to involve.

When is the general medicine OPD open?

Consultations run Monday to Saturday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The hospital itself is open 24 hours for emergencies.
