Laser Proctology

Piles, fissure and fistula are common, treatable — and nothing to be embarrassed about. Laser treatment is one of the options.

What is laser proctology?

Proctology is the care of the anus and rectum. Laser proctology uses a focused laser fibre to shrink piles, help heal fissures or close fistula tracts, usually through no or very small cuts. Compared with conventional surgery, many patients have less pain and bleeding and return to normal activity sooner. Not every patient needs a procedure: early piles often settle with diet changes and medicines, and the surgeon will tell you honestly if that is the case.

Who it is for

Anyone with bleeding during motions, a painful tear, a swelling near the anus, or a discharging opening near the anus.

Conditions we see

  • Piles (hemorrhoids)

What to expect

FAQ

Questions patients ask

Can piles be cured without surgery?

Often, yes. Early piles usually settle with more fibre and water, not straining, and medicines prescribed by a doctor. A procedure is considered when piles keep bleeding, come out during motions, or do not improve. The surgeon will tell you honestly which group you are in.

Which doctor should I see for piles?

A general surgeon or a proctologist. At Disha Hospital, piles, fissure and fistula are assessed by Dr Sharath B V, General, Laparoscopic & Laser Surgeon.

Is laser piles treatment painful?

The procedure is done under anaesthesia, so you will not feel it. Afterwards most patients report less pain than after conventional surgery; mild discomfort for a few days is common and is managed with medicines.

How long is recovery?

Many patients return to light daily activity within a few days. Recovery depends on the grade of piles and the procedure done; your surgeon will give you a timeline.

Can piles come back after laser treatment?

They can, as with any treatment. A high-fibre diet, enough water and avoiding straining reduce the chance.

Is bleeding from the back passage always piles?

No. Bleeding can have other causes, some of them serious. Please get it examined rather than assuming it is piles.
