Department

General Surgery

Surgical care for the common conditions that bring most families to a surgeon — with keyhole options wherever they suit the patient.

What is general surgery?

General surgery treats conditions of the abdomen, skin and soft tissues that are best managed by an operation. At Disha Hospital the surgical team decides between open surgery, laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and laser procedures based on what is safest and most effective for you — and explains that choice before anything is booked.

FAQ

Questions patients ask

Is hernia surgery dangerous?

Hernia repair is one of the most common operations and is generally safe. Like any surgery it has risks, which depend on your health and the type of hernia; the surgeon explains them before you decide. Leaving some hernias untreated carries its own risk — see a surgeon if the swelling becomes painful, hard or cannot be pushed back.

Does every hernia need surgery?

Most hernias do not go away on their own and are usually repaired, but the timing depends on size, symptoms and your health. A hernia that suddenly becomes painful, tender or cannot be pushed back is an emergency — come to the hospital straight away.

Will I be told the cost before surgery?

Yes. Disha Hospital gives a written estimate before planned surgery and explains what can change it, such as the length of stay or findings during the operation.

Is keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery always possible?

Not always. It depends on the condition, your health and any previous surgery. The surgeon will tell you which approach is recommended for you and why.

How long will I stay in hospital?

It depends on the operation. Many common procedures need a short stay of one to a few days; your surgeon will give you an expected timeline before you are admitted.

What if my abdominal pain is sudden and severe?

Do not wait for an appointment. Come to the hospital — it is open 24 hours — or call +91 89517 23114. For a life-threatening emergency anywhere in Karnataka you can also dial 108.
